Vampire detectives In these two chapters, as in other parts of this book, hooks is quite frank, sharing her financial failures and her dread of becoming hardened and greedy now that she has seen economic success. While hooks may not have the economic jargon down, she does speak refreshingly plainly about money and the abuse of wealth in this country.
She gives voice to the poor and underrepresented, even if it is a voice that parrots many of the same examples and references throughout this collection. The challenge is to bring this discussion out into the larger national dialogue, which the two strongest candidates for the Presidency of the US managed skillfully to avoid throughout three televised debates and a year of campaigning.
